Kansas man dies in rollover accident after swerving to miss deer

MENLO, Kan. -- A 37-year-old Hoxie man died Sunday morning after rolling his pickup while trying to avoid a deer.

The accident happened around 5 a.m., just east of Menlo on West 10 Road South in Sheridan County. The Kansas Highway Patrol said Gioavani Duarte-Trinidad was heading west on 10 Road when he swerved to miss a deer. His pickup entered a ditch and rolled.

Duarte-Trinidad was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. A 27-year-old passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Reports state neither of them was wearing a seatbelt.
