Kansas disposes of nearly 6 tons of unused meds

TOPEKA, Kan. — Nearly 6 tons of unused or expired medications were collected and safely disposed of during last weekend's National Drug Take-Back Day.

Law enforcement officers from around the state collected 11,687 pounds of medicines at 117 locations on Saturday, April 26. Those drugs were then turned over to the DEA, which were then destroyed.

Since the semi-annual event began in 2010 in Kansas, 56,214 pounds of medication has been safely destroyed.
