Murder charges have been filed in connection to a body that was found in the backyard of a home near Augusta earlier this week.

On Monday, a neighbor called 911 asking for a welfare check at 9606 SW 110th Street. When Butler County sheriff's deputies arrived, no one answered at the front door so they went to the back door. That's when they found a badly decomposed body in the backyard.

The homeowner, 54-year-old Susan L. May wasn't home at the time, but was soon located and taken in for questioning. She was later arrested.

The body has been identified as Richard Hrejsa. According the criminal complaint filed in court, he was shot to death. Butler County Attorney Amber Norris says Hrejsa lived at the same residence as May and was a family member, but did not elaborate.

Today in court, May was charged with first degree murder, criminal desecration and two counts of interference with law enforcement. Her preliminary hearing in this case is scheduled for October 21.

Earlier this week, Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet said officers had been called to the home multiple times in the past for domestic violence and that in 2000, May was arrested for shooting a boyfriend at the home.
