The Kansas Star Casino is still looking to hire several hundred new employees.

They first announced they were expanding their work force in August. The casino's director of human resources says they are hiring new people every day but still have a long way to go before they're fully staffed.

Since they first opened, the Kansas Star Casino has been operating out of the arena building, while the permanent casino and hotel is under construction. 600 people work there, but when they move to the new, bigger building in December they will need 400 more employees.

Inside the Kansas Star Casino, you'll find plenty of people taking chances. Outside the casino, you'll find the same. Although those people are hoping to score jobs not jackpots.

"I came running,” Ali Simons said.

Stay at home mom, Ali Simons tells us now that her daughter is a little older, she decided it was time to re-enter the work force.

"Need the extra money, she's getting ready to start school extra activities and money comes in handy,” Simons said.

Simons' gamble paid off. She came in to apply and was offered a job on the spot.

“Oh it was excitement running through my body. I ran out and called 10 people, 'I got a job!'” Simons said.

Simons will be a cocktail server on the casino floor. She'll be working at the permanent casino once it's finished in December, which is much bigger than the temporary one.

"The floor space alone is about 30% bigger than this area,” Director of Human Resources Diana Farha said.

That's why the casino is adding 400 new jobs. Half of those are food and beverage positions.

“You know the bartenders, the cooks, the cocktailers, the servers. You know that's where we really need to beef up our employment,” Farha said.

In about a month, Ali Simons will start her new job at the Kansas Star Casino.

“It's a great feeling to know that I will be home every night with my daughter. Not long long hours and I get good money, make my daughter happy and my family happy,” Simons said.

Kansas Star has been hiring for several weeks and have filled around 200 positions, but they still need several hundred more people. They're having a job fair this Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Just go to their employment office in the west side of the casino's parking lot.

The food and beverage positions the casino is filling, pay six dollars an hour plus tips.

When they fill all 400 positions, the Kansas Star Casino will have around 1,000 employees.

The director of human resources tells us they try to hire locally. Right now, 88% of their employees live in the area.
