KHP pursuit ends in crash in north Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. — At least one person is hurt following a crash during a law enforcement pursuit.

It began around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday when a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper stopped a car for an illegal lane change on I-135 at mile marker 7. As the trooper walked up to the car, the driver sped away.

The trooper chased the suspect, who soon exited the highway. The pursuit ended when the suspect hit an SUV at 9th and Green.

The suspect had to be extricated from the car and was taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The KHP said the car the suspect was driving was stolen.

Wichita Police have blocked 9th and Green, and drivers are asked to completely avoid 9th between Poplar and Estelle.
