A Wichita woman and her daughter trying to attend a special arthritis convention are in Los Angeles tonight, after KAKE viewers stepped up to pay their way.
Christine Hiebert and her 10-year-old daughter Lilli are now at the National Junior Rheumatoid Arthritis Convention, where they hope to learn more about Lilli's diagnosis.
Yesterday we told you the Hieberts couldn't go to the convention because they never received the money from a lemonade stand and online fundraiser that was held for them. After receiving more information and confirmation from the fundraising company, we have learned the money that was raised is being sent.
The Hieberts and the woman who held the fundraiser, Amy Lawson, have agreed to either return the money to the donors or give it to a local charity.
Mrs. Lawson told KAKE News that she was never going to withhold the money from the Hieberts and that due to long processing times, she was unable to get the payment to the Hieberts in time. She went on to say that she would never have scammed or deceived donors, or the Hieberts.
Wichita Police are working with both parties involved to resolve the dispute.
