PHOENIX -- K-State fans have come to the desert with one simple late Christmas wish: To see their team go home with its first bowl victory in 11 years.
"We were here last year and we came down to see a win this year," said Barry Jones, a fan from Rose Hill.
His wife, Annette, is enjoying her trip, but is spending much of her time hoping for a Wildcat victory.
"They really want this win, you can tell," she said. "And I hope they get it."
These are just two of the thousands of K-State fans who flocked to the desert for the sixth time in 20 years. Kansas State will face the University of Michigan in Saturday night's Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl in Tempe, Ariz.
Wildcat fans nearly filled a large building at the Rawhide Western Town in Chandler, Ariz., Friday afternoon for a pre-bowl pep rally.
"Sea of purple everywhere; it was a good time," said Brandon Brock, a fan from Phoenix. "Everybody's ready to go. We're going to win tomorrow, that's for sure."
Eric Stonestreet, who stars as Cameron Tucker in the ABC sitcom Modern Family -- a K-State graduate who promotes his Wildcats during nearly every talk show appearance -- feels his favorite team can have a successful showing Saturday.
He even listed some light-hearted reasons he believes Michigan doesn't stand a chance against K-State.
"They have a peninsula there," he said. "An upper peninsula. What's that about? We don't have any peninsulas in Kansas. So, in the peninsula department, Michigan's winning, but who cares? We don't even want a peninsula in Kansas."
