WICHITA, Kan For the second time in less than a week, Sedgwick County authorities are investigating the death of an inmate.
Around 12:30 p.m. Monday, an inmate at the Sedgwick County Jail was found unresponsive. Medical staff performed chest compressions until EMS and fire crews arrived, but the man was pronounced dead just before 12:50.
He's been identified as 44-year-old Joel Craig Hilton, and was being held on misdemeanor charges. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said Hilton had been under medical care for various conditions while in custody.
Investigators believe Hilton died from natural causes but an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
This is the second inmate who died from natural causes at the jail in less than a week. Last Thursday, 59-year-old John Daniel Price was also found unresponsive in a cell.
