GARDEN CITY, Kan. -- Garden City Police have arrested a Kansas prison inmate nearly three months after he was mistakenly released by Missouri authorities.

In February, Sean McKenzie, 36, was temporarily moved from Lansing Correctional Facility, where he was serving time for more than 20 convictions, to face additional criminal charges in Vernon County, Missouri.

Missouri authorities announced in March that McKenzie had been mistakenly released after theft charges there were dropped.

This month, a police investigation into a report of alleged sexual abuse of a child by a Garden City woman's boyfriend lead officials to find McKenzie. He is currently in the Finney County Jail on a warrant from the Kansas Department of Corrections for the escape, along with 10 new counts of rape.

Police also arrested Jessica Romero on aggravated child endangerment charges.
