Illegal dumping on county roads getting worse

WICHITA, Kan. — Sedgwick County leaders say the number of people dumping large items along county roads is getting worse.

County officials say crews are tired of picking up others' trash.
Workers recently found tires and mattresses dumped along south West Street near Haysville. That trash had to be picked up and taken to recycling centers or a transfer station. People living in the area are getting sick of the mess.

"It's just careless people who don't have a thought for other people or their property," said county resident Carolyn Kirkhart.

Kirkhart drives this road every day. At this point she says she isn't surprised by what she sees.

The county will offer coupons for free dumping up to 1000 pounds starting on July 14. Information on receiving a coupon won't be available until that day. For more information go to sedgwickcounty.org.
