A woman reports someone calling her business, crying and asking for money to get to her daughter's funeral in Kansas City. The victim said the woman has called at least four times in the last year asking for the same thing. No loss.
Thursday 1:48 p.m. 8500 W. Hickory
88-year-old man reports someone calling his house and telling him he won a sweepstakes and he needed to meet at his bank with his financial representative to make sure the money is transferred into his account. No loss.
Thursday 4:02 p.m. 1200 N. Rutland
64-year-old man receives a call from someone telling him he had won a sweepstakes but needed to pay a sum for taxes to collect the winnings. The victim hung up, but did call the number on his caller ID back. It was answered by the same person.
Thursday 4:48 p.m. 100 S. Muirfield
81-year-old woman reports someone who said he was with microsoft called and said he could sell software that would make her computer function better. The victim gave credit card and banking information to pay. The caller said his company didn't accept her type of credit card ans she could pay out of her banking account with her routing and account number with no problem. The victim became suspicious and thought this could possibly be a scam. She closed her banking account and cancelled her credit card.
