Wichita, Kan. After disappearing from the rader for months, the Sedgwick County Offender Registration Unit tracked down Billy Ray Brown.
Brown had been hanging out at a homeless shelter in downtown Wichita.
Deputies Preston Schroeder and Mike Wint make up the Offender Registration Unit. There are 2,500 registered sex offenders in Sedgwick County. Many are required to check in regularly, some for life. Billy Ray Brown didn't.
Brown ended up back behind bars, but not every search ends that successfully.
The registration unit went to look for Shawn McDonald. In 2005, McDonald was convicted of child sex crimes. We went with Schroeder and Wint as they searched for McDonald, who hadn't registered in 6 weeks.
He was convicted of the rape of a 13-year-old in 2005. Schroeder and Wint hope they find him soon.
"He's a sex offender. That in and of itself gives me a sense of urgency to catch somebody who is not compliant." says Wint.
When we arrived at the address McDonald last listed as his home, we found two small boys with their grandmother, but no Sean McDonald. After a search of the home, McDonald's fiance showed up, but offered little help.
