A Hutchinson third-grade student was flown to a Wichita hospital Thursday afternoon after being accidentally stabbed in the chest with a pencil.

It happened around 2:15 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic School in the 2600 block of Independence Road.

Dispatchers tell KAKE News the boy was accidentally stabbed with the pencil when he collided with another student in a hallway.

He was flown to Wesley Medical Center, where he was treated and released. The student's name was not provided.
