Hays police officers are investigating two apparently unrelated sexual assaults that happened over the weekend.

The first happened shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday morning in the 2900 block of Canal.

An 18-year-old woman told police that she had been followed, then chased for several blocks by two men. She said the men eventually caught up, then sexually assaulted her. One of the suspects reportedly stopped the attack before both ran from the scene.

Both suspects in that case are believed to be white men. The first had a medium complexion, blond hair and light-colored eyebrows. He is believed to be 20-25, was approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighed about 180 pounds. The second had brown hair and a slender build. No clothing descriptions were available.

The second assault happened just after 3 a.m. Sunday morning at an apartment near the Fort Hays State University campus.

The 18-year-old victim in this case met the suspect at a bar before going with him to an unknown apartment, where the alleged sexual assault took place.

The victim described the suspect in that case as a Hispanic male about 18 to 20-years-old, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed about 150 pounds.

Police do not believe the incidents are related.

Anyone with information on either crime is asked to call the Hays Police Department at (785) 625-1030 or 1011.
