A western Kansas sheriff is out on bond after he was arrested over the weekend for aggravated assault.

Deputies were called around 3:45 a.m. Sunday to a domestic disturbance at the Syracuse home of Hamilton County Sheriff Richard Garza, The Syracuse Journal reports. Garza was then arrested on one count of aggravated assault and has since been released on bond.

Further details of the incident were not made available.

Garza voluntarily placed himself on administrative suspension pending the outcome of the investigation, and Undersheriff Nicholas Krug will act as sheriff during the interim until authorities determine whether to file any official charges.

The Greeley County Sheriff's Office and the KBI have been called in to assist in the investigation.
