WICHITA, Kan. - A four and nine year old were still in their pajamas this morning, hoping what happened last night, was all a nightmare.
The two girls were sleeping in their bed, when a stray bullet came through their bedroom wall on South Florence Street. Nobody was injured, but it did cause a scare for the family.
"We were sleeping and we heard one sound and my husband went to look out, he looked and there was a shot, and we were scared for my kids," said homeowner Carmen Vargas.
Wichita Police are holding a person of interest after the shot was fired from the Oasis Lounge parking lot on West Maple at around 10 p.m.
"I'm not sure that the nine and four-year-old understand the gravity of having a shot fired into their bedroom," Sgt. Jim Smerrick told KAKE News. He says the family is shaken by what happened, "but they seem to be doing OK."
One KAKE viewer reported seeing so many police cars at the Oasis Lounge that part of Maple was blocked to traffic for awhile.
The family plans on gathering with friends and extended family for the holiday, with a growing list to be thankful for.
"I didn't sleep all night because I was scared and thinking what could happen, but thank god nothing happened," Vargas said.
