Firefighters from Sedgwick, Butler, and Harvey County responded to the scene of a large grass fire burning along the Sedgwick/Butler County line.
The fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday near 117th Street North and 159th Street East. At one point, the fire jumped the road and crossed into Butler County near Whitewater.
About 80 to 100 acres burned in the fire. Authorities tell KAKE News that the fire started when a hay bailer caught fire. Despite the triple digit heat and fat-moving winds, crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby farm house and outbuildings.
Firefighters will remain on scene through the night checking for hotspots.
