Dr. George Farha, the founder of the Wichita campus of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, has died.

The university says Farha died Tuesday.

Farha, who was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 as part of the Wichita Business Journal’s Health Care Heroes awards, served as the first chair of the school’s surgery department.

The George J. Farha Medical Library at the medical school is also named in his honor.

Farha won several teaching awards during his tenure at the medical school, and he had a hand in forming several local medical practices.
