A Garden City High School teacher is on paid leave after being arrested for DUI.
Last Wednesday evening, September 18, Finney County sheriff's deputies were called to check the report of a car swerving ditch to ditch on Kansas Highway 156 in a rural part of the county.
When deputies arrived, they found the car facing eastbound, up against a guardrail in the westbound lane. They conducted a field sobriety test on the driver, and told KAKE News that she failed.
Deputies arrested 41-year-old Heather Dawn Kneeland of Garden City and took her to the law enforcement center, where she refused to take a breathalyzer test. She was then booked into the Finney County Jail.
Kneeland teaches English as a second language at Garden City High School. Roy Cessna, public information coordinator for USD 457, said she is on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
