Wichita, Kan. Gang members vandalized a large area of property in a west Wichita neighborhood.
Sometime over the weekend, the group spray-painted messages all over yard fences, sheds and businesses. The fresh graffiti appeared just weeks after business owners had removed it.
Ray Lee with J7J Fence says he's had enough.
"it's just costly, we have to pay to have it fix, and it's not good advertising for us because we do fences."
He says the graffiti appeared sometime over the weekend and his company had already spent hundreds of dollars powerwashing it off the fence.
Wichita Police gang Lt. Jeff Gilmore says the department is taking this crime very seriously. Investigators are looking at the graffiti to see if there are any messages in it.
He says it is important to report gang graffiti immediately. Gilmore says it is the "newspaper of the streets." Gang members use it to communicate with each other and rival gangs.
"the more people, the more gang members who see it, tag it, retaliate... problem continues to get worse."
Police say even if the graffiti is on private property, the city will remove it for you. Gilmore says you can email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 268-4481.
