WICHITA, Kan. — The mother of a Wichita man arrested in connection with the death of a child left in a hot car describes him as a "model dad."
The 10-month-old girl was found in the car Thursday evening.
The man's mother asked us to identify her only as Dottie. She said her son has a passion for children. He and his partner foster several kids and even adopted a couple.
"They were all outside, just visiting, talking, doing what dads do," Dottie said. "They went in the house and remembered (the child) later".
The couple had fostered the little girl since she left the hospital. Dottie's son was arrested for aggravated endangerment of a child.
"That's what he's beating himself up about, how did it happen? How in the world did he allow that to happen?" Dottie said.
Dottie said two of the six children living in the home were visiting a biological parent Thursday night. She said the family dynamic was different and possibly played a role in the tragedy.
"There is no excuse, no there isn't but there's reasoning I like to think is the word."
