A Salina city official extradited to California to face murder charges made his first appearance in court Monday.
Fifty-four-year-old Paul Curry is accused of poisoning his wife, Linda, on July 10, 1994 in Orange County, California.
He was extradited to California on December 2nd.
Curry had been a suspect in the case since the day of his wife's murder, but it wasn't until early November that law enforcement and prosecutors had enough evidence to file the case against him.
The fact that he was a suspect didn't show up on the background check the city of Salina performed before Curry was hired because the investigation was ongoing.
The Orange County District Attorney's Office says Curry killed his wife for financial gain. He received about $400,000 from her life insurance policy.
Curry's arraignment was continued to January 14th.
