WICHITA, Kan. -- A former Wichita teacher has been found guilty and ordered to pay a fine for carrying a gun on school grounds.
Thirty-one-year-old Daniel Nagel, a former physical education teacher, had his municipal court trial Friday. He was found guilty on a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed handgun on school premises. He will face no jail time but has to pay a $372 fine.
The incident happened at White Elementary School on May 20. A USD 259 spokesperson said the gun was not loaded and there was never any threat to anyone at the school.
Nagel was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed firearm.
A police spokesman said that even if Nagel had a permit to carry a concealed firearm, it's still illegal to carry the gun into a school building.
