A Sedgwick County judge has sentenced a former Wichita Police officer to life in prison for fondling his own children.

Thursday morning, a Judge sentenced 29-year-old Joseph McGill to life in prison on one count, and 10 years on another count. McGill was convicted in January of two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Investigators said the crimes occurred while the children lived with McGill three years ago.

It's believed the allegations were uncovered through McGill's probation process for previous crimes. In 2011, McGill was charged with sexual battery and aggravated sexual battery while on duty as a Wichita Police Officer for touching two women. After pleading guilty, he was given 36 months probation and left the police department.

During a preliminary hearing last June, McGill's estranged wife testified that he admitted to fondling the couple's daughters, ages 3 months and 1-year-old in the shower.

McGill will be eligible for parole in 25 years.
