EL DORADO, Kan A former El Dorado police officer and firefighter was killed when he was thrown from a horse.

Butler County deputies were called to the El Dorado sale barn Monday afternoon at 2:35. Ralph Green, 73, was found lying in a fenced area with a severe head injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness said he saw Green riding a horse. Something spooked the horse and it started running in a corral and jumped over a fence. Green fell off the horse.

We spoke with Green's wife and daughter and they say since he retired in 2000, riding horses became his passion.

"He died doing what he loved," Green's daughter Jamie Graham said.

"He always said when it was his time to go, there was one thing he wanted to do. He wanted to be on horseback," Green's wife Nancy Green said.
