Wichita, Kan. -- Wichita firefighters were called to the Red Lobster at 550 South West Street Sunday afternoon after mulch outside the restaurant caught fire.
It happened around shortly before 3 p.m. when a passing police officer spotted the smoke and contacted dispatchers. Wichita Fire Lt. Micah Harris says the fire spread quickly through mulch that had recently been placed around the building and the flames spread very close to the building.
The police officer evacuated patrons from the restaurants as fire crews arrived on scene. The building wasn't damaged in the fire. However, one vehicle in the parking lot was damaged.
Lt. Harris says the restaurant is assisting the customer whose care was damaged.
