A firefighter had to be taken to the hospital after battling an early Saturday morning fire that destroyed a north Wichita home.

Wichita Fire Department Battalion Chief John Turner said the firefighter was taken to Wesley Medical Center in serious condition to be treated for heat exposure.

The fire in the 1500 block of North Grove was reported about 1:30 a.m. by a neighbor, Turner said. Firefighters were not able to enter the house due to the intensity of the fire. They were able to keep it from spreading to other houses and had the fire out about an hour later.

Turner said nobody was in the house at the time of the fire. He said damage from the fire was so extensive, investigators will not be able to enter the house to determine the cause.
