Fire At Northeast Wichita Duplex Ruled Arson

A fire at a northeast Wichita duplex early Sunday morning has been ruled arson.

Crews responded to the fire in the 900 block of North Glendale Street around 3:30 a.m.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but there was smoke damage throughout the home.

No one was inside that duplex at the time of the fire. People living in the duplex next door got out safely and were eventually allowed back inside.

Wichita Fire Capt. Stuart Bevis says it is an open arson investigation. Damage to the home and its contents is estimated at $6,000.

Fire damaged a northeast Wichita duplex early Sunday morning.

Crews arrived in 900 block of North Glendale Street around 3:30 a.m. and saw no fire or smoke.

Acting Battalion Chief Frank Buck said once they gained entry into the home, they found a large fire in the living room. The blaze was quickly brought under control.

No one was inside that duplex at the time of the fire. The people living in the duplex next door got out safely and were eventually allowed back inside.

Buck said the fire was contained to the living room, but there was smoke damage throughout the dwelling.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and a damage estimate has yet to be determined.
