A restaurant suffered extensive damage following a fire earlier this week.
Fire broke out at the New China Buffet near 47th Street South and Broadway around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Responding crews called for a second alarm after seeing smoke coming from the building.
Crews got the fire under control, but the kitchen was a total loss. Investigators say the source was a grease fire.

UPDATE: Wednesday, July 3, 2013
Grease is believed to be the cause of a fire at a south Wichita Chinese restaurant.
The fire was reported just before 4:30 p.m. at the New China Buffet, located inside of a strip mall at 47th Street South and Broadway. Crews could see smoke coming from the building before they arrived on scene.
Because of the building's size, a second alarm was called out on the fire. The fire was contained to the kitchen which is a total loss.
A damage estimate wasn't available at the scene. The cause appears to be grease, but investigators are still working to determine what happened.
The restaurant will be closed for some time. Fire officials say it is a good reminder for business owners to make sure they have their duct work and grease traps regularly inspected and cleaned.
