Crews in Harvey County are fighting a wheat field fire near the town of Whitewater.

The fire started Thursday afternoon along K-196 near Harvest Hill Road, west of Whitewater in Harvey County. Several units are fighting the fire, including firefighters who were requested from Sedgwick County.

At one point some structures were threatened, but firefighters were able to keep the flames away. K-196 was closed for a short time due to smoke causing reduced visibility, but it has since re-opened.

The fire is not yet contained, but the Harvey County sheriff's office says they are close.

It's believed a combine may have sparked the fire.
