All across the nation, local federal offices are reopening with government employees coming off furloughs and returning to work.
Ten federal employees are back on the job in the USDA Service Center in west Wichita.
Farm Program Technician Anita Breth says, "We're glad to be back to work."
She and other workers were busy Thursday returning numerous phone messages left while the offices were closed.
Farm Service Agency District Director Rick Case says, "We're just glad to be back and providing our customers with the service they deserve and hopefully get it to them on a timely basis."
That includes authorizing government payment checks which couldn't be sent out to farm producers during the government shutdown.
Employees in the Natural Resources Conservation Office returned to find the electricity was off because the bill didn't get paid during the shutdown. Power was soon restored.
