The company can confirm that Terry Loewen is an employee at the Hawker Beechcraft Services facility at Mid-Continent Airport. Upon learning of the incident, the company suspended his employment pending the outcome of the continuing investigation. The company is working closely with federal authorities as they complete their investigation.
WICHITA, Kan.-- Family of the 58-year-old man were in shock today after learning of his arrest this morning.
Terry Loewen's ex-wife, Sarah was contacted by FBI agents after his arrest.
"This is not the man that I knew," she said. "I would've never ever thought that he would do anything like this."
The couple divorced in 1995 and have a 24-year-old son, Damien.
"He's a really good guy. I mean, I never thought he'd do something like this," Damien Loewen said. "He was always really calm and a loving man."
Loewen grew up in Wichita and was employed as an avionics technician for Hawker Beechcraft Services at Mid-Continent Airport.
In the 21-page affidavit, Loewen claims to have been studying subjects like jihad and martyrdom operations.
"We have no indication that the defendant was involved or working with any members of any religious community in Wichita and his actions in no way reflect anyone else in our community," U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.
Authorities believe Terry Loewen was acting alone.
Damien said he and his dad have a close relationship and he had no idea how his father came to be the main suspect in a foiled terror plot.
"I want him to know that I love him and I hope the best for him," Damien said. "I mean, he's got to serve his time for what he's done, but I wish he would've thought about us just a little bit more."
