A former Wichita police officer accused of conspiring to bribe a car-theft victim in hopes of saving her job is due back in court.

Ex-officer Joletta Vallejo, 34, and her co-defendants have a hearing Monday in federal court in Wichita. She was indicted in May on charges of wire fraud and conspiracy. Also charged are Patrick Melendrez, 40, and Courtney Foster, 30, both of Wichita.

All three have notified the court they intend to change their pleas.

Prosecutors say an internal police investigation concluded that Vallejo violated department rules in handling reports of a domestic violence case and a related car theft.

The indictment accuses Vallejo of arranging last August for Melendrez to pay the theft victim $150 to recant his statement and another $150 if she kept her job.
