A convicted sex offender who escaped from the Lansing Correctional Facility three weeks ago is back in custody.
Officials with the Kansas Department of Corrections say 59-year-old Gary Furthmyer was taken into custody in the 600 block of Nebraska in Kansas City, Kansas at around 2:00 p.m. today. He was taken to the Wyandotte County Jail, where his identity was confirmed.
On Wednesday, April 18 at 3:00 a.m., Lansing staff confirmed that Furthmyer escaped from his minimum custody job assignment at the facility steam plant.
Furthmyer was serving a 6- to 25-year sentence for a 1985 Sedgwick County conviction of indecent liberties with a child and aggravated failure to appear.
