Escaped inmate Mark Lucas, 44, called a Topeka television station Tuesday morning to say he was turning himself in to authorities and would be accompanied by his wife and children.

He turned himself in to U.S. Marshals sometime around 8:15 a.m.

Lucas escaped the minimum security wing of the Hutchinson Correctional Facility Saturday afternoon, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

He was being held for burglary and theft convictions in Shawnee County.

Lucas called WIBW-TV at 6:02 a.m. Tuesday to say he planned to turn himself in at the Shawnee County jail between 8 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. He also said he wanted to surrender peacefully and that he's "not the monster" he's been made out to be.

Lucas had 10 more years left to serve on his sentence when he escaped Saturday.
