Emporia man rescued from Neosho River

EMPORIA, Kan An Emporia man is lucky to be alive after falling into the Neosho River after dark Thursday night.

Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Rex Fisher says Preston Luttrell went into the Neosho near 108 Cherokee Court shortly before 9:30 pm. Firefighters, Emporia Police and Lyon County deputies responded, with firefighters putting two boats on the water and authorities also using all-terrain vehicles on nearby land.

Firefighters discovered Luttrell floating on some debris, according to Sheriff Jeff Cope, and pulled him out of the water around 10 pm.

Luttrell was hospitalized at Newman Regional Health for observation. Authorities haven't said what led to the incident.
