Drowsy Driver Blamed For Accident Near Salina

A drowsy driver is blamed for an accident that sent four people to the hospital. The accident happened at 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 135 near Salina.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the driver of a station wagon fell asleep and the vehicle veered into the median. The driver was able to briefly pull the car back into the passing lanes. A short time later the car veered into the median again, crossed the southbound lanes and rolled several times.

The driver, Maria Chavez, 24, of Salina suffered potential injuries in the crash. Three children, Adrian Chavez, 1, Nayeli Chavez, 4, and Ivetter Chavez, 6, were taken to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment.
