A driver suffered serious injuries after he failed to pull over for a deputy and crashed into a pole in southeast Wichita.
Sedgwick County Sheriff officials say just before 2:30 a.m. Friday morning a deputy heading eastbound on Kellogg Drive was passed by a speeding car. The deputy watched the driver weaving in and out of the lanes and tried to pull him over in the 3500 block of East Kellogg.
The driver did not stop and instead exited Kellogg at Armour Street and headed south to Lincoln Street. Officials say the driver then headed east on Lincoln past Woodlawn Street and started to speed again. The deputy followed the man in a chase that reached speeds of 90 mph.
Investigators say the man finally crashed into a pole in the 6100 block of East Lincoln. He was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition. He is expected to recover.
The man's name has not been released. No other people where involved in the crash.
Sheriff officials say an investigation is underway and they expect the District Attorney's office to file charges against the driver once he's released from the hospital. They are looking in to the possibly of whether alcohol was a factor in the incident.
