Haysville, Kan. -- The driver of an SUV is getting traffic citations after crashing into a Haysville house Wednesday morning.

"I guess a guy wanted to make our house a drive-in home," says homeowner, Chris Kiefer. "A guy came flying around this corner and hit the house."

The crash happened about 11 a.m. at the intersection of Meridian and Chelsea streets. Police say a young man driving a Jeep Liberty was obviously traveling too fast southbound in the 7400 block of south Meridian when he tried to turn onto Chelsea.

Instead he crossed the yard and slammed into the front of the Kiefer's house.

Kiefer says, "There's damage to the front bedroom, the basement and the house. He broke a water line so there's water all over my basement, electrical issues and then he about came through my garage."

The Kiefers were away at work at the time. Now they'll be lining up a contractor to get their house restored.

Haysville Police Chief Jeff Whitfield says the driver passed a roadside evaluation and didn't appear to be under the influence. He says the driver was issued traffic citations.
