DERBY, Kan. -- Derby police are warning about a telephone scam targeting seniors.

The scam involves someone calling, posing as an employee of the Derby Senior Center. The person is offering a rebate for an alarm system.

Police have traced the calls to a California phone number. When police call that number, they get a constant busy signal.

Derby Police Chief Robert Lee says “It’s important never to give out personal information or credit card information over the telephone to someone you don’t know, even if they sound legitimate.”

Anyone who receives this phone call is asked to hang up and call 911 immediately. If they have caller ID, take down the phone number and provide it to dispatchers.
