WICHITA, Kan Sedgwick County deputies arrested three Oklahoma people they believed were planning to steal copper from a Westar substation.
It started early Tuesday when deputies stopped a woman on traffic charges near 143rd east and K-254. A few hours later, deputies arrested two men as they were trying to get inside the woman's truck.
An investigation revealed the three came to Wichita to burglarize a Westar substation at 143rd east and K-254. The three were booked for burglary and criminal trespassing.
Deputies have worked a number of copper thefts recently. Investigators believe people are using computer mapping to identify locations that may have large amounts of copper wire.
