WICHITA, Kan. — Two men are in custody after Sedgwick County sheriff's deputies made the largest heroin seizure in county history.
At about 11 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, the Criminal Interdiction Unit stopped 2004 Chevrolet Impala for a traffic violation on U.S. 54 near 247th Street West.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies found over three and a half pounds of methamphetamine, as well as two pounds of heroin - the largest amount of heroin ever seized in the county. Combined, the drugs had an estimated street value of more than $250,000.
The driver, 76-year-old Agripino Lujan of Turlock California, and passenger, 36-year-old Frank Mendez of Stevenson, California, were booked for possession with intent to sell.
The case is still under investigation and charges will soon be presented to the District Attorney's Office.
