UPDATE: Police, deputies investigate shooting in far-east Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. -- Sedgwick County Sheriff's Deputies and Wichita Police are searching for a suspect following a shooting in far-east Wichita.

The shooting happened just after 4:30 p.m. Monday in a neighborhood park near 127th Street East and 13th Street North, Wichita Police Capt. Gavin Seiler said.

Police say two teens were at the park to sell pot when a complete stranger approached the car and tapped the car window with a gun. The teens tried to drive away as the other man attempted to break out the window. He then reportedly opened fire, hitting the car and the 18-year-old driver in the leg.

They and their vehicle were found in a neighborhood about a mile away near 143rd Street East and 13th Street north.

The gunshot victim was transported to Wesley Medical Center in serious condition, but is expected to recover.

Police described the suspect as a black man who is 18 to 19 years-old. He has a larger than average build, and is 6 feet tall. He was wearing dark clothing.
