It seems as if it’s the perfect crime – no evidence, a flawless entry and nothing left behind. Police are searching for clues in the latest break-in cases where thieves are getting into high-end model homes and taking everything from the toilet seats to the landscaping.

Wichita builder Bob Cook is scrambling to replace everything that was stolen from his model home in northeast Wichita.

"Extremely frustrating,” Cook says. “It's not just the dollar amount, but the time to make it look nice, and now we are starting back from scratch again."

It happened a week ago, just 5 days before the Fall Parade of Homes was to begin. Someone broke in, backed into the garage and started loading up.

"They took the shower head out of the shower,” Cook says. “They took the toilet seat. Who takes a toilet seat?"

The thieves stole all of the décor, furniture, rugs, door knobs and even plants from the landscaping.

Just a few days before Cook’s model was hit, thieves broke into one across town, taking some expensive décor.

It’s a crime that has the Wichita Area Builders Association sending out a warning.

In an email to its builders across town, it describes the crime and says ‘we want everyone to be aware of these events so you can be on high alert.’

For Cook, it’s more than just a $7,000 loss of items and hours and hours of time. He says it’s a disappointment.

"I think they should spend their time a little better, make a living they should get out and try it," he says.
