After more than 30 years, Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County is increasing the maximum reward paid for information on felony crimes.
The organization made the announcement Monday, saying the maximum reward would be going from $1,000 to $2,500.
Wichita Crime Commission Executive Director Gordan Bassham said the first crime eligible for the reward is the homicide in Old Town on September 22. In that case, gunfire erupted as clubs were closing and led to the shooting death of 25-year-old Kolby Hopkins. Several others were injured.
Anyone with information about that shooting or any other felony crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111. Tips can also be sent via text message to CRIMES (274637), and beginning the message with TIP217. They can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website.
To claim the reward, anonymous tipsters will get an individual secret tip number when they first report the tip. Rewards are paid based only on that secret number, not by another method of identification.
