Police are still looking for leads in the May shooting death of a man in southeast Wichita.

Each week through the end of the year, Crime Stoppers of Wichita and Sedgwick County is featuring a cold case murder with an increased reward hoping to generate new leads that result in an arrest.

This week's case concerns the murder of 23-year-old Samuel Springsteen, who was killed earlier this year.

In the early morning hours of May 27th, Wichita police officers were dispatched to the report of a disturbance with shots fired in the 5100 block of East Bayley.

When they arrived, they found Springsteen lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Wesley Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives later learned that the shooting was the result of an argument between two of Springsteen's friends and rival gang members.

Those who provide a tip that leads to an arrest in this or any other featured Crime Stoppers case through December 28th will receive $2,000, which is twice the normal reward for such cases.

“The Crime Stoppers Advisory Committee feels it is important to take this step as a way to encourage someone with information about this and the other unsolved homicides to come forward and help close them,” said Crime Stoppers Executive Director Gordon Bassham.

Anyone with information on this case or other felony crimes is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111 or by sending a text beginning with TIP217 to CRIMES (274637).
