Firefighters were called out early this morning to a mobile home fire in south Wichita. A driver passing on the highway reported the fire in the 4100 block of South Broadway just before 5:30 a.m.

Wichita Fire Department Battalion Chief John Turner says smoke was visible from a mile away. Crews quickly got singlewide trailer fire under control. Turner says the mobile home was abandoned and was apparently being used for storage.

“It doesn’t appear to have electricity to it or gas to it, so it is suspicious in nature,” Turner says.

A damage estimate has not been determined, and the cause remains under investigation.
