Park City, Kan. -- People are back in their homes after a fire in a Park City industrial park Sunday night led to evacuations of homes.

People were evacuated north and east of the fire which began at Evergreen Pallets in the 5800 block of N. Prospect, Sedgwick County Fire Division Chief Dan Wegner said.

Crews were called to the scene shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday to the business near 61st Street North and Broadway. When they arrived on scene, they discovered two truck trailers, along with wooden pallets and tires burning in the lot of a business. The fire had spread into a tractor storage facility.

"The biggest difficulty was the fire was spread out over several locations," Wegner said. "We divided the response area into a north and south division. Chiefs were assigned to the north and south division and we had an incident commander assigned to the overall fire."

A huge column of black smoke could be seen for miles. A second alarm was called on the fire as crews continued to work to bring the flames under control.

"The wind definitely played a factor in it today," Wegner said. "The humidity was really low, the winds were high. This allowed the fire to move very quickly on the crews here. We had to call in for a lot of resources."

Fire crews from Sedgwick County, Valley Center, and Wichita all assisted in battling the fire.

Wegner says the origin and cause of the fire are currently investigation. A damage estimate was not provided.

No one was injured in the fire.
