Wichita Fire officials tell KAKE News that a fire Monday evening at an east Wichita apartment complex was intentionally set.
Firefighters were called around 6:45 p.m. Monday to Pinecrest Village Apartments at East Harry and Bleckley Drive, which is just east of Oliver.
Smoke and flames were showing from the basement of one of the building's four units when they arrived on scene. Crews quickly got it under control. A hot water heater also overheated and exploded.
No injuries were reported, but the Red Cross was called in to assist four adults who have been displaced.
The fire caused about $40,000 damage to the structure and its contents. Fire investigations says the fire's cause is arson and they are working to identify suspects.
