LYON COUNTY, Kan. -- Two buildings were destroyed and nearly 2,000 acres were left scorched after a grass fire in Lyon County.
The fire was reported around 2 p.m. Thursday near L Road and Road 300,which is about 12 miles north of Emporia. KVOE reports high winds and lack of available water caused problems for firefighters, but they were able to gain the upper hand once the wind died down.
The sheriff's office said two buildings were destroyed and 1,800 acres were burned.
Crews from Americus, Admire, Miller, Reading, Dunlap, Council Grove and Emporia, as well as Deputies and Lyon County Emergency Management worked to contain the blaze.
The cause is under investigation.
