The fire was reported around 2 p.m. Thursday near L Road and Road 300,which is about 12 miles north of Emporia. KVOE reports high winds and lack of available water caused problems for firefighters, but they were able to gain the upper hand once the wind died down.

Crews from Americus, Admire, Miller, Reading, Dunlap, Council Grove and Emporia, as well as Deputies and Lyon County Emergency Management worked to contain the blaze.
